n. m. Sport opposant deux équipes de sept joueurs qui doivent, en se servant uniquement de leurs mains, faire pénétrer un ballon rond dans les buts adverses. Des handballs ou hand-balls.

Sport opposant deux équipes de onze ou sept joueurs, dont chacune s'efforce d'envoyer un ballon rond à l'intérieur des buts adverses par une série de passes à la main, sans aucune intervention des pieds, que seul le gardien de but peut utiliser. Réunion préparatoire pour le congrès de la Fédération Internationale de hand-ball (L'Auto, 24 août 1934, p. 5 ds A.-O. GRUBB, Fr. sports neol., 1937, p. 43). L'éducation sportive à l'école (...) permettrait (...) de leur inculquer [aux jeunes élèves] les principes de base communs aux grands sports collectifs (basket-ball, football, rugby, volley-ball, handball, hockey) (J.
